David was born on October 18, 1946 to Lewis and Genevieve Langer. He had six brothers and sisters-Patricia, Michael, Lewis Jr, Angela, Dennis, and Kathleen. On June 28, 1969, he married Karen Auler. They have three children-Matthew David, Katie Rae, and Christopher Michael. He has one grandchild, Jay Langer.
Dave served with the United States Army from 1966-1967 in Vietnam. He was proud to serve his country in the Vietnam War and always said he would "do it again in a heartbeat".
Dave was employed with the United States Postal Service for 24 years. There he was known not for his great work eithics, but for his love of Coke and Hostess products, especially the chocolate cupcakes. He made many special friends throughout the years, including Christina Childs, Patty Matthews, Linda Nerad, and Joe Romas.
Anyone who knew Dave even a little realized just how special he is. There are not many people in the world who possess as much faith, bravery, strength, stubbornness, and sarcastic humor as he did.
Dave was diagnosed with MDS in September of 2001, brought on by his exposure to Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam. Though his health was failing, his faith and his spirit never faltered. He put up a long, hard fight with a disease that had no cure, and his victory now is with God. He is a hero to many and will never be forgotten.
