Conrad Humbke's delightful personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His was a long, loving life, 96 years lived to the maximum, independent to the end.
He passed away in Hope, British Columbia, Canada, in his own bed on June 19, 2011, where he spent the last years of his life among the most fantastic neighbors in a caring community. He was predeceased by his beloved Joan Winters.
Conrad is survived by his sister, Dorothy; daughter, Sharon (Dick); grandchildren: Linda, Kristine, Susan; great-grandchildren: Jesse and Katie. Also by Joan's family, Rick (Susan); Lisa (Rick), sweet Alisa. Conrad was very fond of his nieces and nephews all across Canada and the United States. Too many family and friends to name!

Conrad was born one of ten children to parents Detrick and Huldah Humbke on a farm in Wataskiwin, Alberta, Canada, on May 5, 1915. Con was a real character, a charmer, great conversationalist who loved to tell a great story. He was the best of hosts, making all feel welcome, and an incredible cook. Conrad was the best of friends, caring and thoughtful.
Conrad began farming, in Alberta, but quickly expanded to many other ventures: from trucking, to tire stores, etc.He ended up loving wheeling and dealing so much he became a wildcatter for oil and gas development, he explored and sunk oil and gas wells, and finally to founding director of oil and gas start ups, in which he was still making money in his 90's with his great-nephew. Passing the skills on! He rejoiced that his mind stayed so sharp.
My name is Kellie Winters. I met Con when I visited my Aunt Joan when I was 13 in North Vancouver,BC more than 30 years ago. We became fast friends, and when I moved to BC I was often found at their dinner table. I remained friends with Con throughout the years, visiting him often, and keeping in touch by phone. He and my husband, Roy, are also close, and we shared many fine meals over the years. Con taught us to make to best prime rib roast (Chef's bouquet!) to how to carve it properly. We miss him a lot. My favorite Con saying: Worry is paying interest against borrowed trouble - a complete waste of time. Love you Con.
