Sister M. Jovita Morman, age 76, of the Sisters of St. Francis, died at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2002, in the St. Francis Convent.

She was born May 25, 1925, in Miller City, Ohio, to Joseph and Mary Gertrude (Schmenk) Morman. Her name at baptism was "Theresa," after the Little Flower of Jesus, St. Theresa.

She is survived by 2 sisters, Sister Gertrude Morman and Sister Damien Morman, 2 brothers, Joseph and Vincent Morman, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were 4 brothers, Father Edmund Morman, Father Wilbert Morman, Adolph Morman, and Father Richard Morman, 2 sisters, Mae Recker and Sister Anita Morman.

Sister Jovita was received into the Order of St. Francis in 1942, professed her first vows in 1944 and her final vows in 1947. She received her education in Joliet College of St. Francis, Joliet, IL. She was a teacher from 1946-1984 in Edgerton, Fort Jennings, New Cleveland, St. Sebastian, New Washington, Peru, Miller City, and at St. Anthony Villa in Toledo, Ohio. She had also served in South Dakota and returned to Tiffin in 1992 to minister at the convent.

Sister Jovita was devoted to helping the poor. She loved to bake and often donated pies and other pastries to local charities. She enjoyed playing the guitar and the organ. In her free time she liked card games.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, May 13, 2002. Interment followed in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
