Jason Scott Swearingen was born in Maine to Barbara Bates Swearingen and Terry Swearingen. He attended Carrabec Senior High School. He moved to Florida in 1995 and worked at Walmart in Lake City, Florida. He began working at Florida State Prison as a correctional guard in February 1997. April 19, 1997 he married Lisa Ann Lites of Fort White, Florida.
