SSG Tilford J. Barton III was born on 10 October 1967. SSG Barton joined the armed services in February of 1988 as a 91 Bravo. In the 18 years he served, SSG Barton was deployed in many places such as Panama, Somalia, and Korea to name a few. SSG Barton was an EMT instructor, an emergency medical tech and a combat life saver.
SSG Barton’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 7 oak leaf clusters, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with two bronze stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with two bronze stars, Global War On Terrorism service, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with two oak leaf clusters, and Overseas service Ribbon with numerical 2. He also earned the CMB, the EFMB, and AIR ASSAULT badges.
SSG Barton was the soldier you could count on to get things done. He always had his door open to any one that needed assistance. SSG Bartan’s extensive medical knowledge was a key factor in training new soldiers in the unit whether it was combat lifesaver certification or preparing them for the various boards. He was well respected by the soldiers and liked by his peers. He always went an extra mile to serve others. We will all miss him.
SSG Barton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Melany Barton and his children, Tiffany, Alexis Tilford and Troy Barton. He is also survived by his parents, Tilford and Sharon Barton from Norman, Oklahoma.
