A Fraternity Brother's Perspective on the Life of C. Ricardo Hamilton

Rick Hamilton devoted husband to his wife joy and father to David and Trisha-- An icon in the Maryland Real Estate Industry serving as principle Broker and Founder of Delta Real Estate in Waldorf, Maryland. Rick served on many professional board in the Real Estate Industry including the Maryland Association of Realtors. Brother Rick was extremely active in both residential and commercial development and supported his community as few have done. Extremely active in the Lion's Club and his beloved Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity at the University of Maryland. Rick was also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa. An Air Force veteran, Rick came to the University of Maryland in the early 1960's and became one of the University of Maryland's top student leaders and served Phi Kappa Tau as its' chapter President. After Graduation, Rick continued to serve as Board of Governors Chairman and then President of the House Corporation. Additionally, Rick served as a trustee of the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation. At Beta Omicron's Fiftieth Anniversary, Rick was named as an honorary founder of the chapter. Most will just remember Rick as a man with impeccable integrity and a man with a heart of gold. He gave not only of his money- but more importantly of his time. Sometimes seen as a tough guy, brothers that got to know Rick saw his tender side-- a compassionate and helpful man to Brothers in need. Rick demanded excellence but he stopped along the way to nurture the human spirit and helped so many young men develop the character they needed to be successful in life. In the last 10 years, one only needed to ask Rick about his Grandchildren to see his tender side. Our fraternity mourns the earthly loss of Rick Hamilton, but we know that, "There is one thing sure and certain, as we bow our heads in awe, that we will meet again in heaven, sure, in the name of Phi Kappa Tau.

Personal Notes

I first met Rick Hamilton as an 18 year old student at the University of Maryland. He challenged me to be the best that I could as a student leader. I will cherish the days that we served the Beta Omicron chapter- me as Board Chairman and Rick as House Corporation President. Rick mentored me in almost every area of my life from fraternity to business and as a new husband and father. My esteem for him is great-- but the greatest thing I can say about Rick is that he was my brother.

I met Rick through my husband Tim and attended many an event over the years at the University of Maryland with Rick and his lovely wife Joy. Rick always gave me a good chuckle of how he could scare the heck out of the undergraduates with his gruff exterior. But on the inside and a lot of the time on the outside was a very loving and dedicated man who took immense joy in helping young people suceed and achieve their highest dreams. All my love Rick, I will miss you.

Rick was there in the beginning for all of us when I joined Phi Tau in 1976. He's partially responsible for all of us still being friends today. Heck, we all wanted to take all of the money in the bank and have a big party. Thank God he saw the big picture. Rest in peace, Rick.

I can't fully express my admiration of Rick. His devotion to the Beta Omicron chapter of Phi Kappa Tau was matchless. It wouldn't have existed when I was there in the 1970's nor would it exist today. Just think --- my brothers from the '70s might not know each other if not for Rick's efforts.

Joy,
Carol and I share in your family's tremendous sorrow.

Rick has such an extraordinary legacy in business and our fraternity, yet we always knew his family was his core.

We will miss his smile and guidance and look always for his steady hand, as those he has inspired try to guide his beloved fraternity.
