Notes and messages

Aunt Norene was one of a kind. She's the aunt you told all your secrets to, the one you want to share the best news with and whose positive attitude you wanted to have. We shared a love of reading, jewelry, shopping, and was not only an aunt but one of my closest friends. The world is a little less happy now, but heaven got a whole lot brighter. We have such an angel on our watch. I love you Aunt Norene, always.

Gerene, 12 November 2008

Although my time with Aunt Reenie was brief in the aspect of her life. In addition to her outer beauty, Aunt Reenie's inner beauty really shined through. Her heart was immense and the room illuminated by her mere presence. I am very blessed to have known Aunt Reenie and I am certain she will remain in the hearts of those who loved her ...

I found a friend in Rene 43 years ago when she walked into a high school French class in Tampa. In the years since - with all the changes in our lives, our locations, our circumstances - our friendship only became stronger. Through the years, we talked and planned and studied together. We sang together, partied together, even got into mischief together (regretting it later of course!). We shared each other's joys and supported each other through some tough times. We'd solve our problems and ramble through the riches of our memories in 2 hour phone calls - we laughed a lot. Rene was sweet, spicy, funny and caring, and I will remember her with love. That she's gone is devastating but that she was - and is - my friend is truly a blessing.

We will all miss Norene greatly. She was the youngest of us three kids in the Keesler family and the only girl. I used to protect her when she got in a fight with brother Bob as we were 10 years apart in age. I taught Norene how to ride a bicycle, how to play catch with a softball and how to do algebra. I joined the military and was stationed in the Philippines, so I missed her wedding. I was very proud of her that she finished her formal education and became so fluent in many languages. She also got into the acting field and made several commercials that were shown on television. She impressed and influenced many others that knew her. I pray that she is resting in peace now, but we wish she had stayed a little longer.

Gene B. Keesler, Brother, 13 November 2008

With only 1000 characters to describe Rene, I really must edit myself. That she's gone simply doesn't feel true, nor does it feel right. I've never NOT been without her, and she'd likely be pissed that I'm making such a fuss.

With gratitude, we spent 2 weeks together in September. We rented movies, cooked incredible meals, and laughed. And laughed.

I just didn't admit then I knew it would likely be our last party together. Still, in our usual way, we drank Rum and Milk (a favorite sleeping aid of hers), held hands, read aloud, and pretty much ignored the obvious. Although she could no longer sing, I did - and she reminded me I was no good without her chiming in.

How frigging true was that.

I've come to realize how many friends unknown to me who have also been in her circle of life, and to a greater degree, how loved she was.

So, to my great friend, a dear, loving soul to all who knew her, I bid her farewell. She was something else, for sure. Details to follow.

It still feels like I can pick up a phone to say hello to my sweet Aunt Reene. Her discreet departure was unexpected. The sudden impact leaves a dull ache. I believe she was at peace when she quietly slipped away on the warm 'Miami November' morning. When friends and family hear, it will most likely be a sorrowful surprise. Norene did not share about illness because she did not believe it was destiny. She never wished to shut anyone out, hurt or burden. She simply handled it in the best and only way she knew. All of us will eventually be on that crazy hot seat one day. It is only then, we will know exactly.
I am so lucky to have had such a wonderful thoughtful and caring Aunt. She always made a point to make ME feel I was a very loved niece and later, a cherished friend/sister. She carried this on with my son Andy(6). We always said we shared him. Everyone reminded us we were so very much a like. It was always such a compliment, always made us both smile.
I will miss her so very much

Norene I love you so much you are in my heart FOREVER !!!! Paula Lemes

Paula Lemes, 16 November 2008

Aunt Reenie was like my own aunt too. I grew up with Gina and I adopted her as my own. Although I have not seen her much through out the years, she was always special to me. I saw her last about 2 years ago. It was like no time had passed at all. She was as beautiful as ever. She will be missed. My heart goes out to her family, especially Gina. I know she was like a sister to Gina and my heart breaks for her. Rest in happiness, Aunt Reenie!

My darling Norene, You simply cannot be gone. Honey, I miss you and I want to call you. You always had the best attitude about life. I remember all those nights we called each other, each of us drinking appleton and coke and we talked endlessly. I went to Italy and you helped me by being there in spirit and sending me to Romano's brother's inn to visit. I can't say the many, many things I want to say to you. I know you are somewhere very special because YOU are SOOOO very special. Honey, I just wish I could hear your sweet voice one more time. Please come and visit me in spirit. You know you can. I am smiling through my tears because I know that in fact, you are saying stop all the fuss and just get on with living. Read Joel ..I do, honey. I read the book you gave me. How is Belinda? Norene, where ever you are, I love you. I miss you and envy those you are entertaining right now. I know you are with Romano. Honey, I didn't know he was gone. Oh, honey. I love you, Delana

Delana, 16 November 2008

I was a student of Norene's. I feel priviledged to have been taught by her. She had a special way of building you up, she gave you confidence... She truly cared. Because of Norene's referral I was cast in my first film. My life is better having known Norene. I will remember her fondly. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

Sharon Raye, 17 November 2008

I had the pleasure of working with Norene for years. Besides her incredible talent, she had the sweetest and most wonderful personality. Always a nice word, a nice smile...

I will miss you Norene! I really hope to be your friend again, next time we meet each other.

I never told you I still have that thing in the place you wanted me to keep. I assume you do not have Broadband in Wherever. So what now?
How is it, D'Ashby, that you didn't tell of your Master Plan? Love you anyway, and always,
Picolla Lamont

Picolla Lamont, 18 November 2008

Norene was for me a light in the vast ocean. Every Saturday afternoon we got together for my speech lesson, which allowed me to go to further heights in my career as an actor. I remember she even trained me over the phone when I had an audition coming. She always cared for the well being of her students and friend. A generous soul, always willing to help her students to navigate further seas from hers.

Horacio F. Lazo, 18 November 2008

I'm truly thankful for all that you did for me Norene. You gave me the confidence and the tools I needed to perform in English. And when I had to do an urgent voice over, you were always there on the phone for me, reminding me not to forget the "shua" sound. You made a huge difference in my life, but I'm sure you know that already watching from up there. And when we meet again (because we will), it will be my privilege to thank you personally.

Memo Sauceda, 19 November 2008

Gosh I wish I had known such an angel. I read the notes left by others and can feel the love she left behind and the love felt forever. I am sure
God has a special place for an angel like Norene.

just me ., 20 November 2008

Reenie Beenie,
My sister,my best friend,my confidante. I cannot believe you are gone. There is such a void in my life that can never be filled. As per our tradition on Friday I thought had better call you and tell you the latest goings on. I actually picked up my phone to tell you about my Panama Canal cruise because i finally made it!!.
You were always there for me, you stayed with Mary through all my sugeries, radiation, and chemo therapy. When I would come out of anesthia there was your smiling face to pull me through.
Never did I imagine that I would be writing a tribute to you. We had talked about what you would say at my funeral.
Yes, you are gone my angel, but you well NEVER be forgotten. I will sign off now by the funny and cute names you always called me.
Love you forever,

My aunt was a magnificent diplomat. She was the steady brightness that life is supposed to be. You never know what you have until it's gone. We have all lost a little part of us with Norene's passing, but we are the better to have been touched by such a joyful person. Even to the end, she thought about everyone else above herself.

Rest comfortably Aunt Norene. We all love you.

Robbie Keesler, 23 November 2008

I am so sorry to hear of Norene's passing. I knew and loved her (madly) in the mid-sixties. In fact, if she hadn't shown her persistent good judgment and firm resolve, she and I would have been married in 1966. My condolences to her family and friends, and especially to you, Gene, another of the Keesler family I have been privileged to know and with whom I worked for a few years. Tender wishes, my friend, on the loss of your little sister.

Bye, Reenie.

John Gillmore, 24 November 2008

Learning of Norene's passing came as a shock to me. I am saddened she is no longer with us. We met in college and became fast friends sharing humor, fake Italian accents, and genuine affection. To me she was Norena and I was Paolo.
Always quick to smile, and radiating kindness from her heart, Norena was one of the joyful experiences in life that are so rare, and to be treasured. My heartfelt condolences to all who
were fortunate enough to know her and share in her shining loving presence.

Paul Argentiere, 25 November 2008

To my ReneeGee...
You were you know, a favorite of mine. My 'nother daughter.
Always a kiss, a smile, a kind word.
See ya, kid. Never in a million years thought I'd say 'so long' first, but save me a seat, okay?
Susie and I miss you so.
Love you

Only met Norene when she was in California. Enjoyed the short time we had. God be with you.

Rene's celebration was definitely a good one. Some old friends reconnected and met others who were special in her life. We toasted, cried, shared stories and hugs, and we laughed...so much. Rene was our focus, and I know she loved that. She gave us another "Rene memory" to tuck away and cherish.
To Norene - Salut!

Dolly, 12 December 2008

I hate to see this site fade away, much like NKGB did. I've come to cherish the friends who have poured so much love into it. Her Send-Off was superb! She would have been proud, and part of me believes she was there with us for the Final toast. So to all of you who have submitted your thoughts and your love... I thank you, as she would have. Love is the greatest honor we have to give, and to remember her with. She would be beside herself at the kind, loving words you all have shared with (for) her. Knowing her was a hoot, wasn't it?

With love

Susie, 16 December 2008

I keep wanting to pick up the phone to call Aunt Norene during the Peoples Choice Awards! How we would pick apart the awards shows, star by star, dress by dress. It was so nice to put faces with names to friends who meant so much to her. I know she and Romano and Grandma and Grandpa are on some kind of fancy cruise up there....

Gerene, 9 January 2009

I only just learned of Norene's passing. We were sweethearts during High School in Maracaibo, Venezuela. I weep over her passing, but I find joy in the fond memories of our days in Maracaibo. We parted in Tampa after returning to the US. Life's twists and turns took us in different directions. Several years ago we once again communicated with each other. Same Norene... full of life and laughter. I will miss her so much. I'll see you again Norene. With love and many great memories.... your old friend, Cal.

Cal Grevemberg, 18 February 2009

Thank you Aunt Reenie for being so wonderful and bringing such joy to our lives. You were a sister, a mother, an excellent friend and most of all very loved. You always led me to rise above and to succeed. You said there was no time to focus on negativity, and how right you were. You had unlimited positive energy even in the worst of times. Everyone loved you so. Our adventure through Europe is for sure one of the best memories of my life. I wish I could turn back the clock and do a better job of convincing you to come to NPR. I moved you here anyway. So how bout that? I will think of your love and kindness for the rest of my days. Hope it's true and I will one day see you again! with love, your niece, Gina Kabina

A year today...no wonder Rene has been on my mind this week. I put on the Righteous Brothers and a whole lotta Motown and sang all day, hearing her voice singing along just as we used to. Miss you, my dear darling friend...always will.

Dolly, 6 November 2009

I so miss you. Those wonderful days in Maracaibo come to mind. We were so young, and so full of life. It's hard to think of you not being in this world. Today I heard a few songs by Peter, Paul, and Mary.... "One Hundred Miles" was one of our favorites. You have been on my mind ever since. I miss you so.
