Tommy Franklin Mattox, Jr. was truly a gift for all who were fortunate enough to know him. He blessed us all with his kindness and gentle spirit. He was the type of person that would give any one, no matter who they were, the shirt off of his back. Never one for confrontation, Tommy always played the peacemaker. Tommy was larger than life; he was the guy everyone loved to be around. Anytime Tommy was present, you were guaranteed to smile. He was loved by many, and he always did his best to take care of those around him.

Although he lived most of his life in Macclenny, Florida, Tommy resided in Jacksonville for the past three years with his fiancée, Tammy, whom he had just proposed to on Christmas night, 2002.

Tommy was a graduate of Baker County High School class of 1982 and attended Henderson State University. He also served with the United States Army. For the past fourteen years Tommy was employed by the United States Postal Service and worked as a supervisor with SPBS Distribution Center in the USPS International Annex.

Tommy enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Pineview Golf Club in Macclenny, FL. Other favorite pastimes included riding his Harley Davidson Fatboy, watching professional and college football and basketball (GO GATORS), and traveling. He loved Key West, New York and Las Vegas. Tommy and Tammy recently traveled to Belize and Mexico and were planning a future trip to the Southern Caribbean. He always said he wanted to live life to its fullest, and he managed to do just that. Before going into his surgery, Tommy told us that he had a good life. He also told us that he knew his name was written in the Lamb's Book of Life, so we can all take heart and comfort in knowing that Tommy is at peace.

Personal Notes

My Dearest Tommy, Although we had a terribly small amount of time together on earth, you gave me and taught me so much. I feel so empty without you beside me, but you still fill my heart with such tender sentiments that I will know forever how much you loved me. YOU, Tommy, are the love of my life, and no one will ever take your place. I love and miss you!
