Army Sergeant Monicka R.Torres was killed November 13,2003 along with six other soldiers when the vehicle they were riding in came under attack and was ambushed,near Tirit,Iraq. Torres,joined the Army December 9,2001 and was assigned to the 15TH Personnel Service Battalion,Adet,based at Fort Hood,Texas in May of 2002. Torres's records with the Army show that she was born in Santo Domingo,but resided in Brooklyn,New York. The fallen soldier was buried in The Dominican Republic where her father and other relatives reside. Torres,was posthumously awarded a Bronze star and Purple Heart. The family declined to comment on the death. She was married two months before she departed to Iraq to an enlisted soldier who is also serving in Iraq, he also refused to comment on the death of his wife and wishes to remain un-named and out of the media.
